If we can only help “Just One!”

Program: English Learning, Cultural Education, and Community Engagement

“Just One” exists to improve the lives of children living in rural Siem Reap, Cambodia. We want to give children a chance at a better life!

“Just One” is a 501(c)(3) non-profit built around the dream of providing children living in rural Siem Reap, Cambodia with the skills and inspiration to pursue different careers and life experiences. Children in the communities we serve go to school to learn the basics. They then return home to work on the family farm or within their local community. Their urban counterparts have access to better school systems, foreign language learning, and better health care. This access creates an environment whereby students in urban communities have a better chance in life and career.

If we can help “Just One” child by equipping them with education and skills for a better life, then “Just One” has fulfilled its mission.

English Learning

Just One aims to spark a passion for learning English in the K-6 grade students at Ampil Peam Primary school. The ability to speak, read, and write English in Siem Reap opens the doors to increased opportunities for better jobs and improved living. Unfortunately, children living in rural villages like the ones we serve are at a disadvantage as they aren’t exposed to English in the classroom and do not have access to native English speakers. Just One and its volunteers represent one of the only opportunities these children have to learn English.

Cultural Education

Our students have minimal exposure to their heritage, cultural sites, and events. Just One aims to provide the students with firsthand experiences through local cultural workshops, field trips, and events that are fun, educational, interactive, and engaging. Through these experiences we hope to inspire the children to explore more opportunities for their future.

Community Engagement

The rural villages of Cambodia are very closely knit and family-oriented. Although Just One focuses primarily on educating children, we strongly believe that local community support and engagement is critical to success. Building relationships and trust within the community is paramount in helping achieve our goals. We will continuously seek out families and individuals in need. We will assist them with things such as home repairs, meals, medical supplies, and clothing donations. No need is too small or insignificant as we aim to show the parents, teachers, administrators, and community as a whole that we care; not just about the students but their entire village.

"The students at Ampil Peam Primary School and village are very lucky to have a beautiful human being in teacher Rikki. He is a giving person that voluntarily helps them learn English and improves the school and community. Your generosity will stay with us forever!"
